Sufism
Muslims define Sufism as the inner, mystical dimensions of Islam. It focuses on the direct experience of God. Sufism is found within both branches of Islam, Sunni and Shi'ite. It is a complete commitment to God. It means that you follow Allah in absolute trust and obedience.
Sufi Orders and Beliefs
Sufis are Muslims who seek a personal intimacy with God. Sufi orders can be seen in Sunni, Shia, and other Islamic groups. As Sufism spread through the Muslim world, most Muslims were attached to a Sufi order. They looked to the leader of the order as a source of guidance and spiritual aid. Members require the instruction of the shaykh or pir, the master, and other leaders to help them attain the higher levels of spiritual experience.
