Mosques
The word "mosque" originated from the Arabic word masjid, meaning "place of prostration". It is the place where Muslims come to bow down in prayer, typically on Fridays, the Day of Assembly. Mosques are the "houses which God has allowed to be built, and His name may be spoken in them" (Sura 24:36). They are the central to the community.
Outside every mosque, is a place where worshippers can remove their shoes to prepare for the ritual washing. The main hallway of mosques is bare. Pictures or statues are forbidden because Allah is a wholly spirit. Muslims believe that these pictures are sacrilegious against God since there can be no image of Allah.
Worshippers always face Mecca when they pray. The mihrab, usually in form of an empty alcove, indicates which direction the worshipers face. They always face Mecca when they pray. The mosque is arranged so that the maximum number of people can see the mihrab.

Wudu
Wudu is ritual washing before Muslims perform before they start praying. Because they believe that they have to look clean and presentable infront of Allah they wash clean their face, feet, arms, hands, etc. and wear fine clothing. The ritual begins by reciting the name of God, then beginning to wash the right hand thoroughly (3 times) , and then the left hand (3 times).
The Qur'an says "For Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean".
